The purpose of the paper will be to develop a framework for the objective evaluation of leadership styles, including effective and dark side leadership. In the framework, various leadership approaches are identified, such as (1) Transformational Leadership, (2) Transactional Leadership, (3) Charismatic Leadership, (4) Situational Leadership, (5) Pseudo-Transformational Leadership. Using this framework, two historical leaders will be compared and contrasted according to their leadership style. In the final section, dark side leadership dimensions will be reviewed and evaluated. Based on the framework, a vision of leadership strategy plan will be completed for incorporating effective leadership, including recognizing darker characteristics and providing solutions to avoid the emergence of dark leadership.

(A research proposal) Motivation of employees is often considered an outcome of leadership style. Transformational leadership is often touted to lead to increased motivation and performance (Belias & Koustelios, 2015) but conflicting studies have shown that leadership styles are more effective when they are tailored to the particular environment, more in line with situational leadership (Geier, 2016; Ogbeide, 2011; Tipple, 2010). This study seeks to analyze how true this assumption is by analyzing CEO use of transformational leadership, organization use of Herzberg’s motivational methods (Adair, 2004), and profit per employee (PPE) (Bryan, 2007) to identify if the three are correlated or if PPE increase is not contingent on CEO use of Transformational leadership or organizational application of Herzberg’s motivational methods. A review of existing research identified that leadership style and motivational methods each mediate performance effectiveness when both are analyzed in the same studies (Morgeson & Campion, 2003; Ogbeide, 2011). The research performed to date has not identified clearly whether or not Herzberg’s motivational methods can mediate performance effectiveness. If motivational methods are found to be a greater factor in PPE than CEO leadership style, research can help organizations to increase performance and improve hiring decisions by focusing on more strategic use, training, and hiring of key personnel based on effective of motivational methods. Further, if motivational methods are the primary mediator for performance, further research could be taken to understand how Vroom’s VIE model (Pinder, 2008) and force field theory (Lewin, 1939) can be used to define and understand these results.

School systems face unprecedented local, state, and federal accountability for school performance and student achievement. School systems and schools themselves have begun to function like business organizations with management complexities and the requirement of bottom line results. School leadership is a critical component to good performance and student achievement. There is concern over whether or not school leaders have the proper management skills and leadership styles and approaches necessary to ensure effective operational performance of schools. Schools have become like business organizations and may benefit from leadership styles proven to enhance performance in business organizations and school settings. Education leaders may benefit from training and development in transformational leadership styles proven to enhance performance in business organizations and educational settings.

This book provides an overview of leadership and leader work in general, detailing the most important roles, skills, challenges, abilities and goals that a nursing leader needs to employ to be successful. The first chapter details the context of healthcare. This is followed by an overview of the literature of health service leadership, describing the similarities and differences between health service leadership and its more generalised leader counterpart. Later, this book provides a review of studies and articles written about hospital leadership. Moreover, the book elucidates the role, skills, challenges and educational needs of health service leaders, while the last chapter summarises this book. The present book aims to understand the nature of the leadership styles of head nurses in public and private healthcare sectors and to evaluate their perceptions of their most important roles, skills and training courses. Also, this book aims to recognise the challenges, obstacles and problems facing head nurse managers and to examine the degree of their impact on health outcomes.
